Paramount and Outright Games have announced a brand new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game set in the world of the recent, critically acclaimed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie. The animated film saw the turtles on a hunt for a mysterious crime syndicate alongside April O’Neil before an army of mutants was unleashed upon New York City.
In a press release from Paramount and Outright Games, it’s been confirmed that the new TMNT game will share the film’s bold, painterly art style with Paramount’s Senior Vice President of Games and Emerging Media, Doug Rosen stating that “the vibrancy of this new film’s animation lends itself perfectly to video games.” The game will also combine “energetic ninja teamwork gameplay” with a humorous narrative akin to that of the movie. A release window has also been confirmed, with the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem tie-in targeting a 2024 launch on PC and consoles.

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’s Tie-In Game Takes Place 8 Months Later
Unlike most other movie tie-in games, the Mutant Mayhem game will not revisit the events of the movie. Instead, it will take place months after the movie’s feel-good ending. This narrative should make for an interesting dynamic going forward and open new opportunities for the story. Unfortunately, any peace seems to be short-lived, as the game features a new mutant threat for the turtles and many other memorable characters from the franchise to team up against.
Mutant Mayhem Will Be A Family Friendly TMNT Game
Outright Games is known for family-friendly games like DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos, Peppa Pig: World Adventures, and Paw Patrol: Grand Prix, which makes them a natural fit for handling the new animated TMNT universe. This will younger fans of the franchise after the news that Paramount would be using video games to tackle some of the darker TMNT storylines from the comics, such as The Last Ronin, which will feature God of War-like gameplay and will likely have an “M for Mature” rating. This will differ from the Mutant Mayhem game due to its focus on playing as one singular turtle rather than the whole group.
Rosen previously indicated that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise would be returning to video games in a big way, and between Mutant Mayhem and The Last Ronin, Paramount looks set to cater to two different sections of the fanbase simultaneously. Paramount has made its intentions to expand the new animated universe clear by green-lighting a sequel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie alongside a two-season series that will serve as a bridge between the films. While it hasn’t been revealed where exactly the game’s events will tie into the new show, this kind of universe-building is great news for fans of this new iteration.
