Apple Music is now available on Roku devices worldwide
Roku has announced that Apple Music is now available on its devices including Roku streaming players, Roku TV™ models, and Roku premium audio products like the Roku Streambar(R) Pro. This deal deepens Apple’s partnership with Roku which already offers Apple TV+ on Roku TV devices.
Apple Music is available on Roku devices with a month-free trial
Starting May 3, 2022, the Apple Music app will be available on the Roku channel store on compatible devices for download for existing or new subscribers to stream their favorite songs or podcasts. New subscribers will get a 1-month free trial before being charged a $9.99 monthly fee.
Roku users can access over 90 million songs and 30,000 expert-curated playlists for any occasion, ad-free on the Apple Music app. In addition, Roku users with an Apple Music subscription can live stream today’s hits, classics, and country with the award-winning Apple Music Radio, as well as listen to songs, albums, and playlists from their own music library. The Apple Music app also allows users to watch music videos in 4K on compatible devices and sing along to their favorite songs with time-synced lyrics. Subscribing users will also gain access to Apple Music original shows, concerts, and exclusives, as well as personalized recommendations.
Apple Music not only offers a vast and growing library of songs, podcasts, DJ mixes, interviews, videos, and more, it also features Spatial Audio and HiFi-lossless audio support for an immersive listening experience. However, the announcement does not mention if those features will be available on Roku devices. In an article, the company’s executives stated since Spatial Audio’s launch in June 2021, it has become “incredibly popular” and accredited the addition of 50% of new subscribers to the immersive surround sound feature. Thus, Roku should consider support for Apple Music Spatial Audio seriously.
Since its release, more than half of Apple Music subscribers are listening to Spatial Audio, executives revealed. The company told Billboard that the ‘majority’ of its subscribers have tried out the new format, and listeners have grown by 50% since September 2021.
Apple Music is also reportedly developing a new “Apple Classical” standalone app to offer classical music. Maybe, upon release, that app would be available on Roku devices as well.
